Part 1: Former Mexican Mafia Rene "Boxer" Enriquez on Joining Gang at 12, 1st Drive-By at 14

--------

In this VladTV interview, former Mexican Mafia member Rene “Boxer” Enriquez reflects on entering gang life as a ninth grader in Artesia, balancing a stoner scene of weed, concerts, Cal Jam and Peter Frampton with growing loyalty to the homeboys. Enriquez explains how reputation-building quickly turned violent, including multiple shootings by age 15, while drugs like barbiturates, LSD, angel dust and marijuana were common around him.

The conversation also examines a dangerous mindset among young Southern California gang members: viewing prison, Pelican Bay status and “shot caller” respect as goals rather than consequences. With a cutback from Mr. Capone-E, Vlad explores how trauma, marginalization and the search for identity can push teens toward gangs, prison politics, and the Sureño/Southside culture.
