Part 8: Carlos Lehder: Pablo Escobar Gave Me Permission to Snitch on Manuel Noriega
Part 1: Medellin Cartel Co-Founder Carlos Lehder on Meeting Boston George in Prison
--------
In this VladTV interview, Carlos Lehder reflects on the 1993 death of Pablo Escobar in Medellín and questions why it took so long for authorities to stop one of Colombia’s most notorious criminals. Speaking as a former narco, Lehder discusses Escobar’s violent legacy, the role of Colombian police special forces, and the controversial claim that Escobar was executed rather than simply killed in a shootout.
Lehder also connects Escobar’s downfall to the pressure from rival Medellín narcos, including Don Berna, whose feud with Pablo helped corner him while he was on the run. The conversation touches on Lehder’s cooperation against Manuel Noriega, Noriega’s 1992 prison sentence, and the earlier death of Gonzalo Rodríguez Gacha, “El Mexicano.” A rare firsthand perspective on the cocaine wars, law enforcement, and the deadly end of the Escobar era.
