Part 13: Ramon "Mundo" Mendoza Details Mexican Mafia Members Killed Over "American Me" Movie
Part 1: Mexica Mafia Hitman Ramon "Mundo" Mendoza on Seeing Inmate Raped 1st Day in Juvenile Hall
--------
Ramon “Mundo” Mendoza sits down with Vlad to revisit *American Me*, the Edward James Olmos film that shaped public perceptions of prison life, gang politics, and the Mexican Mafia. Vlad explains how one disturbing prison scene became a personal deterrent, while Mendoza discusses Olmos’ acting legacy in *Stand and Deliver*, *Blade Runner*, and *Miami Vice* while questioning how accurately the movie depicted gang culture.
The conversation turns to the film’s storyline involving Santana, Puppet, and the order to kill a younger brother. Mendoza says that exact scenario was fictionalized, but recalls a real San Fernando Valley case from Sylmar involving brothers connected to Mexican Mafia politics, alleged extortion, territorial disputes, and a hit carried out in the late 1970s. He also references his book *Gang of Gangs* while separating Hollywood dramatization from real prison history.
