Former Delta Force operator Dale Comstock joins Vlad to revisit the aftermath of the U.S. invasion of Panama in December 1989 and the hunt for Manuel Noriega during Operation Just Cause. Comstock describes living out of helicopters while chasing intelligence leads across Panama, staking out downtown Panama City near the Vatican Embassy, and later learning that Noriega’s security team had prepared explosives at a villa packed with millions of dollars.
The conversation follows Noriega’s arrest, transfer to Miami, conviction on drug trafficking, racketeering and money laundering charges, his later extradition to France, return to Panama, imprisonment and death in 2017 after complications from brain tumor surgery. Comstock reflects on Noriega as a corrupt strongman and drug-linked ruler, but contrasts him with Saddam Hussein and his sons, whom he describes as far more evil. A blunt discussion on power, justice, U.S. intervention and America’s role in confronting dictators.
