Part 1: Nicholas Irving & Robert O'Neill on Macklemore's "Free Palestine" Ed Sheeran Tour Drama
--------
Vlad sits down with former Navy SEAL Robert O’Neill and Army Ranger sniper Nicholas “The Reaper” Irving for a candid conversation about sniper training, modern warfare, and fatherhood. O’Neill reflects on graduating sniper school in 1998, the legacy of Marine legend Carlos Hathcock, and why spotting, camouflage, ballistics, wind, and range cards shaped pre-9/11 special warfare. Irving discusses his respect for Hathcock and the impact his own book has had on people wanting to become snipers.
The discussion turns to AI and drones, with both veterans saying today’s technology has changed the battlefield dramatically. When asked whether they’d want their children to follow their path as military snipers, Irving says no, while O’Neill says he’d strongly steer his kids toward military academies, aviation, or competitive shooting instead. The conversation also touches on SEAL Team Six, F-18 pilots, Virginia Beach, Top Gun, Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, and Man on Fire.
