Part 1: Dirt Rock on Meeting Orlando Anderson, Joining Southside Crips

“Dirt Rock” sits down with Vlad to break down his early years in Compton’s Southside Crips, explaining the “tiny gangster” and “baby gangster” ranks, how he got his name, and the street politics around Orlando and other older homies. Dirt Rock also reflects on the drug trade in his area, the reputation of major hustlers, and the violent everyday realities that shaped that era before the Tupac Shakur situation and the Lakewood Mall incident.

The conversation then turns to the mid-1990s East Coast–West Coast tension, when Sean “Puffy” Combs and Bad Boy Records were dealing with pressure during the Death Row Records beef. Dirt Rock says Keef was the key connection that brought Southside Crips around Puffy, with as many as 50 people pulling up to shows—partly to hang out, but also to be there “just in case.” He also mentions Zip Martin and brief encounters connected to that scene.
