The comedian explains how she used credit card numbers, bought items, resold them, and eventually served about nine months in jail before becoming a mother. She also recalls entering jail with a tough attitude, stealing snacks from another woman’s locker to “make a statement,” and getting beaten up by the female inmate—who later became someone she stayed close to inside.
Jess also discusses life after giving birth, struggling to raise her son with limited support, being unable to afford electricity, and stealing candles and lighters from Dollar General just to keep the house lit.
