Part 12: Gregory Scarpa Jr on Getting Out of Prison After 32 Years at Age 69
Part 1: Mafia Hitman Gregory Scarpa Jr: I Would've Done a Hit on My Dad if I Knew He Was Snitching
--------
In a candid interview, Gregory Scarpa Jr., son of the infamous Colombo family capo, slammed Sammy "The Bull" Gravano’s justifications for turning state's witness. Scarpa Jr. expressed deep disappointment over Gravano’s decision to cooperate with prosecutors, calling him a “rat” without excuses. “All those reasons they give for flipping? That’s bullshit,” Scarpa Jr. said. “You are your own person. You did it because you’re a rat. That’s it.”
Reflecting on the harsh realities of Mafia life, Scarpa warned youngsters against involvement, predicting prison or death as inevitable outcomes. Despite his own cooperation against terrorists, Scarpa Jr. insisted his status as a Colombo made man remains, though he’s “put on the shelf” for his mistakes.
Acknowledging the grim truth that many in organized crime eventually cooperate to avoid life sentences, Scarpa Jr. underscored the treacherous nature of the mob lifestyle. Today, at 74, he enjoys a quieter life, often visiting the beach and leaving the violent past behind.
