Part 1: Gringo Man on Pioneering Reggaeton, Almost Getting Killed for His Sound System

--------

After spending 29 grueling years across 12 federal prisons for a crime he maintains he didn’t commit, Gringo Man’s life changed forever when former President Donald Trump granted him clemency. Represented pro bono by his dedicated lawyer Bettina Shane, who worked on his case for 17 years, Gringo Man’s breakthrough came after advocacy inspired by the high-profile clemency of Alice Marie Johnson, whose release Kim Kardashian championed.

Johnson and her daughter discovered Gringo Man’s petition and passionately fought to bring his case to Trump’s attention. On January 18, 2021, during a late-night announcement of clemency grants, Gringo Man prayed for freedom—and miraculously, his name was called. Overwhelmed with emotion, he recounted the surreal moment of walking out a free man after nearly three decades.

Despite attempts by authorities to challenge his citizenship and freedom, his U.S. citizenship was verified, finally ending a long battle for justice and opening a new chapter in his life.
