In a candid interview, Dawgface recounted a harrowing experience from his teenage years involving his mother’s abusive boyfriend. At just 15, Dawgface was living between Detroit and Flint when he learned from a neighbor that his mother was being brutally beaten by Melvin, a man he regarded as a stepfather figure. Furious and determined to protect his mom, Dawgface retrieved a Colt 45 from his car and confronted Melvin. Breaking through a locked patio door, he fired multiple shots as Melvin fled the house.
Though arrested and facing charges as an adult, Dawgface ultimately beat the case when Melvin failed to testify. Reflecting on the incident, Dawgface emphasized his protective nature, saying he had no remorse as his mother’s safety was paramount. Despite his efforts, he revealed his mother and Melvin remained together for years, underscoring the complex dynamics of domestic abuse he witnessed growing up.
