In a heartfelt interview, rapper Papoose opened up about his close friendship with late DJ Kay Slay, sharing the emotional moment when Kay Slay confided in him that he feared he might not survive COVID-19. Despite being extremely cautious during the pandemic—wearing protective gear and using disinfectants—Kay Slay eventually contracted the virus. Papoose recalls their daily calls and how Kay Slay’s message from the hospital, “I might not make it,” profoundly affected him. Despite encouragement and heartfelt messages from Papoose, Kay Slay tragically passed after falling into a coma.

Papoose also highlighted Kay Slay's impact on hip hop, praising his unwavering support for artists and his commitment to authentic hip hop culture. “He never sold out or compromised his character,” Papoose said, emphasizing that Kay Slay’s absence has left a void in the music community. The legacy of the hip hop purist remains a powerful influence today.
