In a recent interview, hip hop veteran Oschino expressed strong opinions on R. Kelly’s prison sentence, arguing that the R&B star should be released much earlier than his current 31-year term. Oschino believes a decade behind bars—or even less—is sufficient, stating that Kelly’s offenses mostly involved adults, not juveniles. He criticized the length of the sentence as disproportionate, comparing it to penalties for violent crimes and calling the punishment “insane.” Oschino also highlighted Kelly’s unparalleled musical talent, positioning him as one of the greatest living artists, second perhaps only to Michael Jackson.
He lamented how Kelly’s legacy and finances were stripped away following his conviction and suggested the controversial possibility of a pardon, maybe by a governor nearing the end of their term. While recognizing the political unlikelihood of such a move, Oschino emphasized Kelly’s cultural contributions and questioned whether the harsh sentence truly fits his actions.
