Before managing hip-hop star Dave East, Wayno faced a tough road, juggling odd jobs and even training to become an armored truck guard. His big break came unexpectedly while hosting shows at NYC’s SOBs, where he discovered East performing at a Harlem showcase. Impressed by his talent, Wayno approached East about managing him, boldly promising to make him rich despite no clear plan.
Drawing from over a decade in the music industry and previous management experience, Wayno leveraged his connections to push Dave East’s career forward. Their efforts paid off when East's 2014 mixtape *Black Rose* caught NAS’s attention, leading to a signing with Mass Appeal Records and subsequently a major deal with Def Jam in 2016. Wayno recalls the grueling negotiations that extended into the early morning but ultimately resulted in a multi-million dollar contract.
This milestone not only launched Dave East’s career but transformed Wayno’s life from uncertain beginnings to millionaire manager, proving the power of determination and belief.
