Part 6: FBI Agent Seamus McElearney on How He Destroyed the Colombo Mafia
Part 1: Former FBI Agent Seamus McElearney on Investigating DeCavalcante Mafia AKA Real Sopranos

--------

Seamus McElearney, a retired FBI agent, boasts an extraordinary career dismantling organized crime. As a supervisor, he oversaw investigations of 20 murders—including the tragic killing of NYPD officer Ralph Dolls—successfully prosecuting ten Mafia bosses across nine trials and recovering five bodies. McElearney played a pivotal role in dismantling three major Mafia families over his decades with the Bureau. Despite shifting priorities after 9/11, which diverted FBI resources toward counterterrorism and violent crime, he warns that the Mafia, with over 125 years of history, will not disappear and could easily rebuild if left unchecked.

In 2013, McElearney received the FBI Medal of Excellence and was honored by President Barack Obama at the White House. After retiring in 2019, he now works in corporate security but reflects fondly on his "dream job" fighting organized crime, emphasizing teamwork and the ongoing need to watch the mob’s resurgence.

Seamus McElearney’s "Flipping Capo: How the FBI Dismantled the Real Sopranos" is available for purchase on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
