Following the murder of Tupac Shakur, Compton erupted into violent conflict as local gangs sought retaliation. In a recent interview, Neckbone, a witness and participant in the turmoil, described the outbreak of war between the Southside Crips and Mob Piru Bloods. The violence escalated quickly, with over a dozen shootings and multiple murders occurring within days, including innocent victims caught in the crossfire.
Neckbone recounted the chaos, sharing how a close friend—who was uninvolved in gang activity—was tragically killed in a back alley during the hostilities. The tense atmosphere led to numerous clashes and even attempts on Neckbone’s own life. The conflict stemmed from accusations that Southside Crips were responsible for Tupac’s shooting, igniting cycles of retaliation.
This period marked one of Compton’s darkest times, with neighborhood peace shattered and the community engulfed in unrest fueled by grief and vengeance.
