He emphasized that if a faith leads someone to commit such evil, it might not be a true religion. Irving strongly criticized the father’s decision to involve his son in such a deadly attack, stating he could never bring his child into harm’s way knowingly. Reflecting on the gravity of the tragedy, Irving called the act “vile” and said those who do this deserve eternal punishment.
