Michael Jai White discussed Ice Cube’s critically panned film, "War of the Worlds," which famously scored a zero on Rotten Tomatoes. Though White hasn’t seen the movie, he acknowledged the overwhelming negative response and shared insights into the challenges actors face with difficult projects. He pointed to an “alternate world” that famous people sometimes inhabit, where honest feedback is scarce, which can lead to misguided performances. White hopes Ice Cube can “laugh at himself” and learn from the experience rather than be trapped by praise that shields him from reality. Reflecting on a similar situation with Lou Diamond Phillips, White recalled how seeing an actor “phone it in” early on influenced his own commitment to always give his best, irrespective of a film’s quality. He also noted how directors may hesitate to offer critique to powerful stars, which can affect the final product, leaving audiences with a subpar movie to judge.
