Gloria Velez opened up about her controversial experience posing topless at just 14 years old for DJ Laz’s album cover in the early ’90s. Growing up in Florida’s teen club scene, Gloria was involved in dance contests that often blurred boundaries between teens and adults. Despite her young age being known to the artist and crew—and her mother’s awareness—she felt pressured to participate in the photoshoot, obeying industry adults without guidance. Gloria described the environment as one where teenage girls were groomed to think provocative acts were acceptable, with adults encouraging and rewarding them. Reflecting on the experience, she acknowledges the awkwardness in the photos and the exploitative nature of the situation, highlighting how much the industry—and society’s standards—have changed since then.
