Consequence stirred controversy this week after posting — and quickly deleting — a cryptic Instagram message that appeared to blame Kid Cudi for the collapse of Ye and Drake’s once-rumored joint album. The post, which has since been removed, sent shockwaves through social media and prompted a swift and forceful response from Cudi.
In the message, Consequence suggested that Ye and Drake’s “game-changing project” never materialized because of Cudi. “And the reason we didn’t get this Game Changing project... Is because a Kid... Needed to see Ghosts smh 👻👀,” he wrote, seemingly referencing Cudi’s debut mixtape A Kid Named Cudi and his 2018 collaboration with Ye, Kids See Ghosts.
Consequence went further, making an alarming accusation: “So he got bro to take Pills and rant on stage which landed him in the Psych ward. More Triggering Truth To Tell.” The post was accompanied by footage from the new Nico Ballesteros-directed documentary In Whose Name?, which captures Ye’s creative process and mental health struggles.
Cudi quickly clapped back, calling the claims “extremely false” in an Instagram Stories update. “The things he said were pretty f***ing disturbing,” Cudi wrote, adding that his team sent Consequence a cease-and-desist letter. He warned that further legal action would follow if the allegations were not retracted. “You’ll be hearing from my lawyer,” he said.
