Cardi B is speaking out about the challenges of navigating the music industry and the painful lessons she’s learned from trying to support up-and-coming artists. In a candid sit-down with Kelly Rowland, the Grammy-winning rapper revealed how her kindness toward newer artists has sometimes been met with betrayal.
During the emotional conversation, Cardi reflected on how frequently she’s been “dragged through the mud” online, explaining that the constant criticism has left her feeling unrecognizable at times. She shared that her instinct is often to reach out to younger artists who are experiencing similar backlash. “Sometimes when I see like a new little [artist] coming up, and I feel like they kind of cool and people are dragging them, I’ll slide in their DMs like, ‘Hey, you know this is temporary. This comes with the good and the bad,’” she said.
However, Cardi revealed that her goodwill hasn’t always been appreciated. In fact, some of the very artists she tried to comfort have turned against her. “Sometimes you got to know who to do it with,” she admitted. “Because I’ve done that for people who went and backstabbed me. You out here feeling sympathy for them and wishing them the best, and these [people] want to beat you. You don’t even realize it. You think they’re a nice girl, you feel bad for her, and then she starts being shady to you.”
Despite these painful experiences, Cardi made it clear she refuses to let the internet — or anyone else — define her. She emphasized that her success comes down to her own determination and work ethic, not outside noise. “Nobody could ever finish me — not the internet, not a hater, nobody,” Cardi said. “If my work ethic is weak, then I finish my own self. But as long as I’m working, I know who the f** I am, and nobody can mess with me in nothing.”*
