Fans have been buzzing about the state of Drake and Young Thug’s friendship after a recent leaked jail call surfaced online, in which Thug appeared to criticize Drake. While some speculated about tension between the two longtime collaborators, most agree this isn’t the start of a full-blown feud. Their decade-long history of working together and Drake’s visible support for Thug throughout his YSL RICO case suggest that their bond runs much deeper than a single leaked conversation.
Adding to the conversation, Ian Connor took to Twitter to share what he claims are text messages and a voice message from Drake recounting an emotional in-person visit with Young Thug behind bars. In the clip, Drake described the surreal experience of seeing Thug in jail.
“I walked in, and he was like, ‘Man, what the f*** you got going on, twin?’” Drake recalled. “He was like, ‘I’ve never seen this part of the jail before in my life, n****. They came and got me out my cell and said you here to visit me. I said, man, these n****s trying to break me, man. They trying to drive me crazy, man. It was 9:30 at night. Ain’t no way they letting me have no goddamn visit right now.’”
Thug was stunned by the visit, telling Drake he had never been given an in-person visit until that moment. Drake went on to describe the powerful impact of their meeting, calling it “emotional” and even joking about how exclusive the visit was: “They wasn’t letting nobody but this light skin crooner in there, twin.” The story highlights the depth of Drake’s loyalty to Thug during one of the most difficult periods of his life.
The leaked call that sparked the rumors reportedly included Thug commenting on Drake’s feud with Metro Boomin, referencing the loss of Metro’s mother. “He probably just sent some stupid condolences,” Thug allegedly said, suggesting Drake’s message lacked depth or sincerity. He went on to criticize the way Drake allegedly tried to work with Metro shortly after, saying, “You using the fact that you’re Drake as a weapon now.”
