Young Thug is finally speaking out about the controversies that have followed him throughout his incarceration.
In a rare and revealing interview with Big Bank on Perspektives With Bank, Young Thug addressed his leaked jail phone calls, the backlash surrounding Gunna’s plea deal, and the emotional toll of life behind bars. The Atlanta rapper made it clear that the viral recordings circulating online don’t reflect who he truly is, explaining that the conversations were never meant to be public.
“I ain’t never been a n**** to talk about nobody else in my life on the phone with nobody else,” Thug said firmly. He revealed that during his 23-hour lockdown at Fulton County Jail, phone calls with his girlfriend became his only outlet — a place to vent his frustration and trauma rather than calculated statements meant to hurt anyone.
While the internet has treated the leaks as fodder for gossip, Young Thug explained how deeply painful they’ve been for him and his loved ones. “This s*** make me remember those dark ass days and moments I had,” he shared. “This s*** make my girl cry. She ain’t even tripping about what we saying on the phone.”
He also raised questions about who might be behind the leaks, suggesting it could be people upset that he’s “pushing grown man business.” For Thug, these recordings weren’t rap beef or industry gossip — they were raw confessions from a man surviving isolation, now twisted and weaponized in public.
The interview also saw Thug addressing Gunna’s controversial decision to accept a plea deal in the ongoing YSL RICO case. Thug spoke with a mix of love and heartbreak, explaining that his biggest issue isn’t just the plea itself, but Gunna’s silence afterward.
“Gunna, you my brother. I love you to death, n****. Why you ain’t gave me an explanation?” he said, revealing that despite having direct access to Thug through his father, Gunna never reached out. Thug emphasized that his anger stems from loyalty and accountability, not revenge: “Once you break a rule from your manhood, once you rat… you broke a man code.”
Despite the pain, Thug made it clear that his feelings toward Gunna are complex. While he still loves him like family, the betrayal cuts deep given their shared history and success.
“We done made all the millions in the world together. I gave you the millions,” Thug reflected. Still, he drew a firm line on where he stands: “The only thing I’m ever say—you’re a rat. You did what’s wrong. You betrayed me.” Ultimately, Thug’s message wasn’t about reigniting conflict but seeking closure. “As a man, you supposed to tell,” he said, highlighting that for him, healing can only begin with the truth.
