Dancehall artist Mr. Vegas made headlines in 2022 when he graduated from Florida International University at age 48, earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology and anthropology with a minor in hospitality management. Having dropped out of school at 14, Mr. Vegas was motivated to return to education to challenge the stereotype that entertainers lack intellectual depth. He also completed an associate degree and a GED before attending FIU. Mr. Vegas credits his education with helping him “unlearn and ascertain different information” and hopes his journey inspires others to pursue learning regardless of age. Vlad highlighted the importance of completing a degree for learning discipline and finishing tasks. Mr. Vegas reflected on possibly pursuing law school earlier but is proud of the path he chose, demonstrating it’s never too late to expand one’s horizons.
