Tyrese is opening up about his disappointment after Mary J. Blige declined to collaborate with him on his new project. The singer and actor, whose album Painfully Beautiful dropped last month, revealed in a candid social media video that he had reached out to the nine-time Grammy winner to appear on not one, but two songs.

“I tried my best to get Mary J. Blige on both songs,” Tyrese shared. “She passed on it. It’s okay. I feel a way about it. I’m hurt. I’m hurt. I’m really hurt, I can’t lie. But she passed on it.” While Tyrese made it clear he respects Blige’s decision, he admitted that the rejection cut deeper because one of the tracks was created with her in mind. “Like a mad scientist I went into the studio, and when I tell you I customized this song, I made this motherf***er tailor-made for Mary.”

Despite his feelings, Tyrese emphasized that he still has nothing but love for Blige, calling her a legend and a sister. “I don’t even think you understand how much I love you,” he said directly to her in the video, praising her loyalty, compassion, and ability to uplift others. “You’re amazing. I love you. I’m disappointed you didn’t do my song but that’s so much equity over all these years, I ain’t gon’ hold that to you.”
