After nearly two years of legal battles, Boosie Badazz has officially struck a deal with federal prosecutors in his gun possession case—significantly reducing the time he’ll likely spend behind bars.

The Baton Rouge rapper, whose real name is Torrence Hatch, appeared in a San Diego courtroom this week and formally pleaded guilty to a single count of illegal gun ownership. The agreement, disclosed in newly filed court documents, comes just a month after Boosie publicly admitted he was “tired of fighting” and ready to accept a deal.

Under the plea arrangement, prosecutors agreed to drop a second firearms charge and recommend a two-year prison sentence. Without the deal, Boosie faced up to fifteen years behind bars if convicted at trial. Prosecutors also revealed fresh details about the case, including claims that Boosie purchased both a Glock and a Hellcat handgun in Georgia before flying with the weapons to San Diego on a Delta Air Lines flight—the same day he was arrested during a traffic stop. In their filing, prosecutors argued that because neither the guns nor the ammunition were manufactured in California, their transportation into the state satisfied federal “interstate commerce” standards.

The government also confirmed it will not seek additional financial penalties, citing Boosie’s “limited financial prospects.” His legal team has not publicly commented on the deal.

Boosie’s case dates back to June 2023, when he was first indicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Federal law bars anyone with prior felony convictions from owning guns.

While sentencing has not yet been finalized, the plea deal marks a major turning point for Boosie. If the court accepts prosecutors’ recommendation, the rapper could be released in as little as two years.
