Cardi B is never one to hold back, and in a new interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1, the Bronx superstar addressed the ongoing tension she’s had with other women in hip-hop. The candid conversation comes just weeks before the release of her highly anticipated album Am I the Drama?, set to drop next month.

Over the years, Cardi has made headlines for her high-profile beefs with Nicki Minaj, Bia, and several others. Those conflicts, and the constant chatter surrounding them, inspired the title of her upcoming project. “It’s like, ‘Damn, does drama chase me? Or am I the drama?’” Cardi told Lowe around the 13-mark. “I just really think I was born with an anointed light. Sometimes the light is great, but it also disturbs people’s peace. It draws people to me, and it’s not always going to be good.”

She explained that her energy and presence in the industry seem to trigger others. “Even in the industry, there is a lot of different female rappers, but for some reason, it’s something about me that these b****es can’t stand,” Cardi said bluntly. “They can’t f*** with me. Some b****es, I feel like they’re on this class right now, they’re sophomores, and I’m a senior. And it’s like, you want to f*** with the senior so bad. You think you’re here with the senior. You’re not even a junior. You need to worry about them other sophomores before you start worrying about the f***ing senior.”

Cardi went on to say that her peers often focus on taking shots at her rather than building their own legacies. “It’s something about [me] that it’s like, they can’t even focus on them. They got to focus on me. And they always got to focus on throwing me shots and throwing me slings … and I’m sick of it. It’s like, f*** you, f*** everybody.”
