Snoop Dogg is opening up about an unexpected parenting challenge that came from watching a children’s movie with his grandson.

The rap legend, 53, appeared on the It’s Giving podcast, where he discussed marriage, parenting, and masculinity. Around the 31-minute mark, he recalled how Pixar’s 2022 film Lightyear left him stumped when his grandson asked about the same-sex relationship featured in the movie.

“Why my grandson in the middle of the movie like, ‘Papa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She a woman,’” Snoop recounted. “I didn’t come here for this s***. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.”

In the film, Alisha Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba) is shown with her wife, and the couple has a child together. While the movie never explains the specifics, same-sex couples often become parents through sperm donation, artificial insemination, or in vitro fertilization.

Caught off guard, Snoop admitted he didn’t know how to answer his grandson in the moment. “I told him, ‘shh, eat your popcorn,’” he said with a laugh. “So it’s like, f*** me, I’m scared to go to the movies now. Like, y’all throwing me in the middle of s*** that I don’t have an answer for.”

Snoop, who is grandfather to seven children including 10-year-old Zion Kalvin Broadus and 4-year-old Sky Love Broadus, said the situation “threw [him] for a loop.” He added, “We have to show that at this age? Like, they’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”
