The YSL RICO case may be closed, but the fallout continues to shape conversations in hip-hop. 808 Mafia producer Southside recently sat down with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN on Drink Champs, where he explained why he won’t be working with Gunna, even after the dust has settled.
“Right is right, wrong is wrong. I’m a street n***a at the end of the day,” Southside said, pointing to his longtime bond with Young Thug. “Slime is my friend, like, I made ‘Danny Glover’ for him, that blew him up. I’ve been friends with him when he didn’t have teeth in his mouth. He was signed to Gucci Mane at first. That’s been my friend for a long, long time. So, I could never go against what he say.”
Southside emphasized that loyalty is the deciding factor in his stance. “If he feels some type of way about it, that’s how he feel. He’s the same way with me—if I feel some kind of way about somebody, he just ain’t gonna f*** with ‘em. So, it’s just like, I can’t do it.”
When asked whether he believes Gunna broke the street code, the producer was blunt. “I would’ve never did what he did. If my brother did that to me, I’d feel some type of way.” Gunna, who entered an Alford plea in late 2022, has consistently denied accusations that he cooperated against Young Thug or other YSL members.
