Rising Dallas rapper BigXthaPlug was arrested late Thursday night, just hours before the scheduled release of his highly anticipated new album, I Hope You’re Happy.

According to Dallas County jail records, the rapper—born Xavier Landum—was booked at 2:20 a.m. Friday on misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession (less than two ounces) and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police said the arrest stemmed from a traffic stop connected to a car club gathering in southeast Dallas that officers described as a “street takeover.” Authorities noticed Landum’s Dodge Ram TRX did not have a front license plate. When officers approached, Landum acknowledged there was a firearm inside the vehicle. After a database check flagged him as a documented gang member, police searched the truck and found about 3.4 grams of suspected marijuana.

This is the second time in 2024 that Landum has faced marijuana-related charges in North Texas. He was previously arrested in Arlington earlier this year. Despite legal troubles, BigXthaPlug has quickly risen as one of the most recognizable new names in Dallas rap, gaining national attention with his booming voice, energetic delivery, and community-rooted visuals like the June music video for “Home,” which famously shut down Dallas’ Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.
