Ciara is no stranger to hearing critics label her husband, Russell Wilson, as “corny.” But during a recent visit to The Breakfast Club, the Grammy-winning singer made it clear that the outside noise doesn’t faze her.

When co-host Charlamagne Tha God asked for her honest reaction to people calling Wilson corny around the 22:15 mark, Ciara laughed it off. “Oh my gosh, I don’t have to even reply to that… why would I even respond to that?” she said. “I know what I know, and that’s all that matters. He is the most amazing human being you could know. The smartest, most intelligent Black man I have ever known. What you see with him is really who he is—and it’s beautiful.”

Ciara went on to explain that while Wilson doesn’t let the criticism bother him, the people throwing around the label might be revealing more about themselves than about her husband. “Sometimes people speak out of pocket because they just don’t know. It’s like, have you ever loved someone? Have you ever been loved right?” she said. “Too bad for them if they want to live life a certain way and love people a certain way. God bless them.”

Even when Charlamagne and the crew teased her about letting her Atlanta roots out with a clapback, Ciara kept her composure. “Do I want to say stuff sometimes? Absolutely. But is it worth it? No,” she replied, choosing grace over pettiness. “I don’t have to live my life to prove anything to anybody.”
