Hughley argued that MAGA favors Black men who are “obedient.” He cited Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and Senator Tim Scott as examples of “unremarkable” Black conservatives chosen primarily for their loyalty rather than exceptional achievement or independence. Hughley also touched on Black athletes like Shaquille O’Neal, noting that while athletes may be remarkable in their fields, they are often distanced from their communities and groomed to project a certain image. He critiqued this phenomenon, stating that Black excellence is unfairly measured by rare exceptions, which shouldn’t be the standard for the entire community.
