Newly released police bodycam footage is shedding light on the tense moments that led to Sha’Carri Richardson’s recent arrest — and it shows the Olympic sprinter had no shortage of words for her boyfriend, fellow Team USA star Christian Coleman.
The incident took place on July 27 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, where surveillance cameras captured Richardson shoving Coleman into a wall near a security checkpoint during a heated dispute.
When Port of Seattle police arrived, Richardson appeared visibly irritated and repeatedly downplayed the altercation, telling officers, “We had an argument — that’s pretty much it.” She insisted she never put her hands on Coleman, instead saying the fight stemmed from “lies” he had told her.
However, when police told her that surveillance footage showed otherwise, Richardson’s frustration boiled over. The bodycam video captures her calling Coleman “a coward” multiple times and telling him, “I will never f*** with you again.” She also told someone nearby, “This is the position Christian Coleman put me into … because he’s a coward.”
Interestingly, Coleman told police he didn’t believe the argument had turned physical, contradicting what the video appeared to show.
Richardson was arrested on a fourth-degree domestic violence assault charge and spent nearly 24 hours in jail before being released.
She initially stayed silent on the matter, but on Monday night, she shared an Instagram video saying she was seeking outside help. By Tuesday, she had issued a direct apology to Coleman, writing, “To Christian, I love you and I am so sorry.”
The case has yet to play out publicly, but the footage paints a vivid picture of a volatile exchange between two of track and field’s most high-profile athletes.
