Denzel Washington isn’t holding back when it comes to his beloved Dallas Cowboys — and team owner Jerry Jones is in his crosshairs.

The two-time Academy Award winner appeared on ESPN’s First Take alongside director Spike Lee to promote their new film Highest 2 Lowest, but the conversation quickly shifted to football. A lifelong Cowboys fan, Washington made it clear his loyalty hasn’t wavered — but his patience is running thin.

“I’ve been a Cowboys fan since the ’60s. He’s making it hard for me,” Washington said of Jones. “Not to be a fan, because I’m still a Cowboys fan… but he ain’t thinking about us. He’s thinking about his pocket.”

The Cowboys are currently locked in a tense contract standoff with defensive star Micah Parsons, who has hinted at wanting a trade after negotiations stalled. Jones’ public comments have only added fuel to the fire. The drama comes on the heels of a disappointing 2024 season in which Dallas missed the playoffs entirely.

Washington, looking straight into the camera, delivered a stinging reminder to Jones about the franchise’s long championship drought. “There’s box office and there’s Oscars, Jerry. Been a while, huh? Ain’t been to the show, you wouldn’t know… what it is to win.”

Despite his criticism, Washington insisted his comments come from a place of love. “Because I really love them, this is why I feel the way I feel.” Still, he couldn’t resist getting in one last jab — paraphrasing a line from his new movie: “All money ain’t good money, Jerry.”

The Cowboys haven’t hoisted the Lombardi Trophy since 1995 and haven’t advanced past the divisional round in nearly three decades, leaving frustrated fans — and apparently Hollywood heavyweights — hungry for change.
