A leaked snippet allegedly featuring Young Thug’s voice is adding more fuel to the ongoing rift within the Young Stoner Life (YSL) camp. In the brief clip, a voice believed to be Thug delivers a pair of pointed shots — one at Gunna, and another at Yak Gotti.
“Only reason I f***ed with you, Gunna, it was ’cause of Troup,” the voice says, referencing Keith “King Troup” Boles, a respected Atlanta figure who mentored both artists before he was fatally shot in 2015. Thug previously paid tribute to him on the track "King Troup."
The clip also targets Yak Gotti, with the line: “Yak tricked me for some years, I ain’t know he was telling.” That accusation raised eyebrows given Yak’s role in the YSL racketeering case — he was acquitted of all charges earlier this year, making him the only co-defendant to walk away without a conviction.
The timing of the leak coincides with the release of Gunna’s latest project, The Last Wun, on August 8, widely seen as his final album under the YSL label. On tracks like “Prototype” and “Just Say That,” Gunna appears to respond to past remarks and social media posts from Thug, hinting at the fractured relationship between the two since Gunna’s guilty plea in the YSL RICO case in late 2022.
While Thug has yet to address the snippet directly, Yak Gotti’s attorney, Doug Weinstein, issued a strong rebuttal via X (formerly Twitter). “Yak did not say a single thing against Jeff in his interviews with the cops. I don’t know where this is coming from,” Weinstein wrote. “Yak had opportunity to turn on Jeff during trial to get out of the case easy. He never took it. He stood tall and took it all the way to the jury.”
Weinstein went on to suggest that prosecutors are trying to sow division within the YSL circle. “The State wants nothing more than to turn Gunna, Jeff, and Yak on each other. These are all talented artists whom the State wants to drag down. Heaven forbid they rise above their station. Don’t let them do it.”
With no official statement from Thug and tensions still simmering, the leaked audio has only deepened the intrigue surrounding one of hip-hop’s most closely watched fallouts.
