Offset recently opened up on Carmelo Anthony’s 7PM in Brooklyn podcast about the deep personal and professional impact of losing his Migos bandmate and cousin, Takeoff. The rapper admitted that, had business matters been handled differently, he never would have left the group, as he was able to balance solo success with Migos’ collective work. But after Takeoff’s tragic death, everything changed. “It don’t feel the same… now y’all just wake up and it ain’t the brother in the house no more,” Offset said, explaining that the loss drained the motivation to keep the group going.

The tragedy happened as Offset was preparing to release an album, but grief brought his creative momentum to a halt. He described it as a “fork in the road” moment where he didn’t even want to make music. While he has learned to keep moving forward, he admits there’s no cure for the pain. “You might go three weeks or two months, but it’s going to hit you… you missing something,” he shared. The rapper uses his role as a father to push through the difficult days, but said that the absence of Takeoff is something that will always weigh on him.

Offset also spoke about the unique bond between the Migos members, stressing that his relationship with Quavo remains solid despite occasional disagreements. The two stay in regular contact, prioritizing family over outside noise. He recalled how Takeoff acted as the group’s “glue” — the mediator who kept everyone grounded and avoided unnecessary conflict. “He’s just peaceful, bro. He be the heart and soul,” Offset said, noting that he still feels Takeoff’s presence.
