Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, found himself behind bars again over the weekend, but this time the case fizzled out before it could gain traction.
The 35-year-old rapper was arrested early Sunday (August 3) morning in Los Angeles after police pulled over a vehicle he was riding in for an alleged traffic violation. During the stop, officers reportedly discovered a firearm in the car—prompting Soulja Boy’s arrest on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The arrest took place around 2:35 a.m. in the Melrose district, not far from the rapper's own clothing store. After spending two nights in custody, Way was released on Tuesday when the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office declined to press charges, citing insufficient evidence.
Soulja Boy wasted no time addressing his release, taking to social media with a simple message on a black background: “First day out.”
