The controversy began after Jones accused Bryant and Roc Nation founder Jay-Z of ghosting him after reportedly agreeing to a new contract for star linebacker Micah Parsons. Both Bryant and Roc Nation quickly fired back, denying Jones’ claims and asserting that the Cowboys owner was actually the one dodging calls. Bryant even hinted that he was holding back information that could potentially expose the full truth of the situation.
But just as the debate was heating up, Nicki Minaj inserted herself into the fray. Though she has no ties to the Cowboys or the NFL, Minaj has her own ongoing beef with Jay-Z and Roc Nation. In a cryptic tweet directed at Bryant, she suggested that every time he aired a story involving Jerry Jones or the NFL, she’d match it with a “story time” of her own — promising to focus on Roc Nation, Jay-Z, and Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez, whom she accused of racism.
Bryant responded with a light-hearted GIF at first, but things quickly soured. As Minaj continued to escalate, she dug up Bryant’s 2012 domestic violence arrest involving his mother — a case that never resulted in jail time. Bryant clapped back, clarifying that he was defending himself in the situation, and he accused Minaj of dragging his name through the mud while being married to a registered sex offender. From there, the insults flew — with Minaj even offering $10 million for a fight, and Bryant saying he'd take the money and embarrass her husband in front of her.
