During a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, DJ Vlad shared his thoughts on several hot-button topics shaking the hip-hop world, including the ongoing Diddy sexual assault case, Nicki Minaj’s controversial social media behavior, and a public apology to Marlon Wayans.
Vlad addressed the backlash he received for a viral tweet about Cassie amid the Diddy case. While some fans criticized him, Vlad explained his comments were meant to shed light on the complicated nature of high-profile legal battles. “Things aren’t always what they seem,” he said. “I was just pointing out that these situations have multiple perspectives and it’s important not to rush to judgment.” Vlad emphasized the need for fans to stay informed and cautious when following cases with conflicting narratives.
Shifting to Nicki Minaj, Vlad spoke candidly about her decision to involve the FBI and CIA after hearing a TDE affiliate allegedly threatened her life. “Top Dog didn’t threaten her life,” Vlad explained. “It was some DJ saying, ‘She don’t want to be in the blender,’ which is just slang.” Vlad questioned whether tagging federal agencies over such comments amounted to snitching, with Jess Hilarious dubbing her “Snitchy Minaj.” He highlighted how in his experience, online threats often don’t translate to real-life danger, stating, “People say they’ll kill you on the internet, but if they meet you, they want a photo.”
Finally, Vlad opened up about his past fallout with Marlon Wayans over a disagreement about interview fees. He admitted he was going through a rough patch at the time, which contributed to the tension. “I texted him and apologized,” Vlad said. “I was just being a jerk. Interviews are my life and legacy, so I take it personally. But it should’ve been a private business conversation.” Vlad acknowledged Marlon’s professionalism and expressed a willingness to reconcile, joking about the initial $40,000 fee request, “The door’s still open for him, but not for $40,000.”
Vlad’s candid conversation on The Breakfast Club also touched on the evolving landscape of hip-hop media, the challenges of maintaining authenticity, and the importance of consistency in building a lasting career. You can listen in full above.
