A San Diego County judge has determined there is sufficient evidence for actor and comedian Faizon Love to face a criminal trial following a hotel altercation that allegedly turned violent last year.
Love is facing a felony assault charge stemming from an incident in August, when he reportedly became irate after a hotel was unable to honor a booking he made through a third-party app. According to court testimony, the situation escalated quickly in the hotel lobby.
During a preliminary hearing, a hotel clerk—who has requested anonymity—testified that Love became verbally aggressive, repeatedly shouting profanities. The clerk recounted that when she attempted to de-escalate the situation, Love allegedly ripped a credit card reader from the check-in desk and hurled it in her direction. She claims the impact left her with a concussion.
Prosecutors argue that Love’s reaction to the disrupted reservation crossed the line into physical violence, putting hotel staff at risk. However, Love’s defense attorney offered a different account of events, citing statements the clerk allegedly made to police the night of the incident. According to the defense, the credit card reader was thrown between two employees—not directly at anyone.
As the case moves forward, more details are expected to emerge in court. For now, the judge’s decision marks the beginning of what could be a lengthy legal process for the veteran performer.
