Jacksonville rapper Hakeem Robinson, better known as Ksoo, is currently on trial for the 2020 murder of Charles McCormick. The case, now in its third day, is drawing national attention as prosecutors and defense attorneys present sharply contrasting narratives in the courtroom.
Ksoo, 26, and co-defendant Leroy Whitaker, 24, are both facing charges for the deadly shooting that took place in a shopping center on Merrill Road in Jacksonville on January 15, 2020. Though the two are being tried together, each has a separate jury.
According to prosecutors, the murder was deeply personal. They argue that a diss track recorded by McCormick, which allegedly mocked Ksoo’s late brother Willie Addison, served as the motive for the killing. Prosecutors claim Ksoo retaliated, turning music beef into real-life tragedy.
Ksoo’s defense, however, is challenging the foundation of that theory. His attorney, Tara Kawass, pointed to clear differences between Ksoo’s appearance and the person seen in dashcam video footage taken from the scene. She suggests the prosecution’s case hinges on assumptions rather than concrete proof.
The courtroom has already heard from several witnesses, including a woman who recounted what she saw during the shooting and a police officer who described chasing the suspects after the incident. Meanwhile, the public has been weighing in, including many in the hip-hop community who believe Ksoo is being unfairly targeted.
Among them is Ksoo’s longtime friend and frequent collaborator Yungeen Ace, who posted a heartfelt message on Instagram in support of both Ksoo and Whitaker. “I know so much time been taken from y’all. I been just trying everything I can for y’all even when I fall short... I know I ain’t the best, but it ain’t nun I won’t do for y’all. Praying y’all overcome this—I’m knowing y’all will. Trust 💯 Know it feel like y’all fighting alone but the whole world behind y’all. Praying y’all make it thru 🌍 #freetheInnocent,” he wrote.
The message resonated with fans and served as a reminder of the strong personal bonds behind the headlines. As the trial continues, supporters are hoping for justice, while the legal system works to determine whether Ksoo will be held accountable—or exonerated.
