In a revealing conversation on the Drop the Lo podcast with Evelyn Lozada and her daughter Shaniece, Ray J shared an honest and vulnerable look into his complicated relationship with his sister, R&B singer and actress Brandy Norwood.

Toward the end of the interview, around the 36:43 mark in the above video, Evelyn asked Ray J how close he and Brandy really are. His answer was raw and straightforward: “It’s not good. I love my sister, but I’m an embarrassment to them.” When pressed about feeling accepted by his family, Ray J replied, “I never wanted to be accepted. I just feel like I’m an embarrassment.”

Evelyn also expressed admiration for Brandy, calling her “so beautiful” and noting that Brandy’s beauty wasn’t always fully recognized at the time, especially as a Black woman in the entertainment industry. Ray J agreed, acknowledging Brandy as “the first Barbie” and praising her grace.

While Ray J acknowledged that their relationship isn’t where it could be, he remains hopeful. “I think we’re good. We’ll be okay,” he said, signaling that family ties, though strained, aren’t broken beyond repair. He also hinted at the complexity of family dynamics, mentioning others like their cousin and the need for certain things to be addressed as a family.
