Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been sentenced to five years of probation after reaching a plea agreement stemming from a high-speed crash on Central Expressway in Dallas earlier this year. The incident, which occurred in March 2024, involved Rice driving a Lamborghini at speeds nearing 120 miles per hour before causing a multi-vehicle collision. Rice and others involved reportedly left the scene without offering assistance.

While the plea deal between the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and Rice’s legal team initially did not include jail time, Judge Ernest White intervened, expressing concern over the severity of the offense. After conferring privately with both sides, the judge amended the agreement to include 30 days in jail, to be served intermittently over the five-year probationary period. The court also required Rice to pay restitution to the victims, totaling over $115,000 in medical expenses—an amount that had already been voluntarily paid prior to the hearing.

In court, Rice declined to speak publicly, but issued a written statement expressing remorse. He acknowledged the gravity of the situation, referencing sleepless nights and a renewed commitment to using his resources to support the victims. “I want to remind everybody to drive the speed limit and to be smart in cars,” Rice stated, while his attorney, Royce West, emphasized his client’s desire to make things right moving forward.

Judge White did not mince words during sentencing, calling Rice’s actions “beyond ridiculousness” and “stupid.” He admonished the wide receiver for endangering lives and noted that Rice was fortunate to avoid harsher consequences. As part of the plea deal, Rice pleaded guilty to felony racing on a highway and felony collision causing serious bodily injury. In return, prosecutors agreed not to pursue six additional charges, which had not yet gone before a grand jury.
