DJ Akademiks took to Instagram Live to share an update on Toronto rapper Top5, who was recently the victim of a violent attack in London.

According to Ak, he spoke directly with Top5 following the incident and revealed that the rapper underwent surgery for a deep laceration sustained during the attack.

"Top5 is good," Ak began. "He has like a big laceration. It was kinda deep. He lost a lot of blood. He went through the surgery and he's gonna have a full recovery. It's gonna take a little while, but yeah. I think he said it's like 17 inches. I ain't gonna lie to you."

Akademiks went on to suggest that the attack was an intentional attempt on Top5’s life.

"For what it's worth, somebody definitely tried to kill him," Ak stated.

He also addressed online rumors and misinformation surrounding the incident, particularly a viral video falsely claiming to show the rapper being attacked.

"That video is not real. That video where they're saying that's Top5, that's not Top5," he clarified.

Sharing details from his conversation with Top5, Ak explained that the rapper was attending an afterparty and was separated from his group at the time of the attack.

"He told me he was at this afterparty spot and felt like people followed him. He was taking a picture with a fan while going into the club... I asked him where his homies were at. He said, 'I was with 20 people. I got there earlier than them. I thought they were already inside—so really, I was alone.' And then, while taking a picture with someone, somebody kinda ran up on him."

Addressing speculation about the motives behind the attack, DJ Akademiks shut down theories tying it to local issues in the U.K.

"I'ma throw the ‘allegedly’ on there because I know people like running with false things, but this has got nothing to do with the U.K. Respectfully, it did happen in the U.K., but it's got nothing to do with the U.K... It's some whole other s***."

As of now, further details about the attack remain limited, but Top5 is reportedly on the path to recovery.
