Outkast legend Big Boi is grieving the tragic loss of his uncle, Remoin “Uncle Moonie” Patton Sr., who was killed in a road rage shooting in Atlanta. Patton, 62, was shot in the back during a heated exchange with another driver while traveling on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard NW, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
After being shot, Patton lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a vacant home. Thankfully, no one inside the house was injured.
The heartbreaking incident led to the arrest of two individuals. Police apprehended 32-year-old Janisha Crumbley and charged her with hindering the apprehension of a criminal. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Jabyrion Crumbley surrendered to authorities on July 2 and now faces multiple charges, including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is currently being held without bond.
Big Boi confirmed the devastating news in a statement to WSB-TV, saying, "Everybody who knows Uncle Moonie—heart aches. He wasn’t just ‘my’ uncle, he was ‘Unk’ to all that met him. A moment of rage has totally pierced the heart of my family forever."
The Atlanta rapper also paid tribute to his uncle on Instagram, sharing a touching slideshow of photos and videos from over the years. He captioned the post: "Long Live Uncle Moonie … Miss ya UNC 💔 To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
As the investigation continues, fans and friends have flooded Big Boi’s comments with condolences and support, echoing his sentiment that Uncle Moonie was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
