A celebration turned into tragedy outside an album release party for rising Chicago rapper Mello Buckzz, when a drive-by shooting left four people dead and 14 others injured.
The shooting occurred outside Artis Lounge in Chicago’s River North neighborhood late in the night, just as attendees were exiting the venue. According to police, a dark-colored vehicle drove past the club and someone inside opened fire into the crowd.
Authorities confirmed that two women and two men were killed in the attack. Among the 14 others injured, at least eight are reported to be in critical condition.
In a heartbreaking Instagram post following the incident, Mello Buckzz revealed that both her boyfriend and her best friend were among those killed. Grieving publicly, she wrote, “Prayers up for all my sisters. God, please wrap your arms around every last one of them. We need u, I need u. NGL I’m f***ed up…feel like everything just weighing down on me. All I can do is talk to God and pray.”
The investigation is ongoing as the city reels from yet another act of senseless violence.
