Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley is reportedly under federal investigation over allegations connected to gambling on NBA games and player prop bets, according to a report by ESPN.
The investigation reportedly centers around the 2023–2024 NBA season, when Beasley was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. A gambling industry source told ESPN that a prominent U.S. sportsbook flagged suspicious betting activity tied to Beasley’s individual stats in January 2024, citing an unusual surge in interest on his performance-related wagers.
While no criminal charges have been filed at this time, the case has raised concerns amid the NBA's broader efforts to maintain the integrity of the game amid growing ties with sports betting companies.
Beasley's attorney, Steve Haney, issued a statement defending his client: “An investigation is not a charge. Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now, he has not been charged with anything.”
NBA spokesperson Mike Bass also addressed the situation, telling ESPN, “We are cooperating with the federal prosecutors' investigation.”
As the investigation unfolds, the NBA community is keeping a close watch on any developments, especially as the league continues to navigate its evolving relationship with legalized sports betting and its impact on player conduct.
