Nelly and Ashanti recently appeared on Fat Joe and Jadakiss’ new podcast, Joe and Jada, where they opened up about their upcoming reality show, We Belong Together, and reflected on some key moments from their past—including a tense exchange with 50 Cent.
During the conversation, Nelly recalled the height of the G-Unit and Murder Inc. beef, sharing a moment when he confronted 50 Cent over his public shots at Ashanti. At the time, Nelly and Ashanti were dating, and they were both attending the MTV Awards when the issue came to a head.
“I asked her, ‘You want me to say something to Fif?’” Nelly said with a laugh. “I didn’t think she’d say yes… and she said, ‘Yes.’”
Nelly explained that he and 50 Cent were cool at the time, so he pulled him aside to clear the air. According to Nelly, 50 shouted out an apology to Ashanti soon after.
Fat Joe also chimed in, revealing that he had “like 20 meetings” with 50 during that same period, trying to convince him to leave Ashanti out of the beef. Joe recalled that 50 wasn’t having it, allegedly telling him, “This is war—nobody’s safe.”
