Draymond Green is opening up about one of the most controversial moments of his career—punching then-teammate Jordan Poole during the Golden State Warriors’ 2022 training camp, just months after the team won the NBA championship.
Appearing on The Pivot Podcast, Green got candid around the 9-minute mark, admitting that even in his mid-30s, he’s still learning hard lessons.
“Age 33, 34, 35—I’m still learning,” he said. “That situation happened, and I’m like, alright, cool, we move on. But when we couldn’t move on, I was like, huh… and for a while, it made me think, ‘Man, this dude is nothing like me.’ Because when those things happen, you just move on.”
Green went on to explain that the incident revealed a deeper disconnect in perspective between him and Poole. “It taught me so much because it taught me—you’re right—he may not be like you. He’s not from where you’re from. The things you went through, the way you had to come up—he may not have come up like that.”
Reflecting on the exact moment he lashed out, Green said, “For that five seconds, I forgot where I was at. Because I immediately went to what I know. But what you know doesn’t really work here. And everybody says, ‘Oh man, but you were 10 years in—you should know better.’”
