Kevin Durant found out about his trade from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets in a highly public setting — while on stage at Fanatics Fest in New York City. The 15-time All-Star was in the middle of a conversation with NBA reporter Taylor Rooks when the news broke, catching both the crowd and Durant himself off guard.

Following the initial surprise, Durant later addressed the trade during an on-camera interview with sportscaster Kay Adams. The NBA superstar didn’t mince words when reflecting on the Suns’ decision to move him.

“I mean, they wanted me to go,” Durant said candidly. “I’m glad they got what they wanted, and I got what I wanted — so good luck to them.”

Despite the shock of learning about the trade in real time, Durant expressed optimism about his new chapter in Houston. He opened up about the emotional toll of being at the mercy of front-office decisions and emphasized how much it meant to land somewhere he feels valued.

“You know, when people can just hang your career in the balance like that and choose what they want to do with it — it’s a nerve-wracking feeling,” he told Adams. “But being able to kind of take some control and be with a team that values you, I’m looking forward to it.”

Durant now joins a young and hungry Rockets squad that has been actively reshaping its roster. As one of the league’s most prolific scorers and playoff-tested veterans, his presence could quickly elevate Houston into a serious contender in the Western Conference.
