Doug Weinstein, the attorney for rapper Yak Gotti, recently opened up about the major differences between Young Thug and Gunna’s situations in the ongoing YSL RICO case. Speaking on the It’s Up There podcast, Weinstein made it clear there were "a lot" of distinctions between the two rappers’ legal approaches.

According to Weinstein, Gunna accepted an Alford plea early on, which allowed him to maintain his innocence while avoiding trial. Meanwhile, Young Thug rejected a similar offer and instead took what Weinstein described as a “non-negotiated” or “blind” plea—fully aware it could land him in prison. “He had to risk going to prison, partially so he wouldn’t have to sign off on all that stuff,” Weinstein explained, suggesting that Thug took a principled stand.

Weinstein said that Thug was offered the same plea deal as Gunna but refused to agree to its terms, ultimately facing a tougher legal battle as a result. “Young Thug was a target,” he added, noting that Thug wasn’t given the same early-out options others in the case received.

As for Gunna, Weinstein clarified that despite public perception, he doesn’t believe the rapper cooperated with prosecutors in a way that harmed the defense. “He signed what he signed and got the hell out of there,” Weinstein said. “What Gunna did didn’t hurt us at all.”
